16 Sep SAHPRA attains clean audit outcome for the 2023/2024 financial year
Pretoria, 16 September 2024 –The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) is proud to announce that it has received its first clean audit outcome from the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) for the 2023/2024 financial year, following on a record of consistent unqualified audit opinions.
The AGSA’s audit confirmed the rigour and strengths of SAHPRA’s financial and operational controls as SAHPRA’s financial statements and the selected indicators on reported performance information were found not to have any material misstatements. Furthermore, the AGSA reported that no material non-compliance with selected legislative requirements was identified or any significant deficiencies in internal control.
The audit outcome attests to SAHPRA’s commitment to clean governance and the highest best practice standards.
The clean audit outcome is a step up from a record of unqualified audit opinions received for the 2022/23 and 2021/22 financial years. SAHPRA achieved this feat despite its relatively recent establishment.
“We are proud of the work done to put robust systems and processes in place to ensure clean governance which ensured we attain this feat,” says SAHPRA CEO, Dr Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela, adding that “SAHPRA is committed to sustaining a clean record of governance and the highest level of financial stewardship in our quest to remain a world-class African health products regulator that executes its public health mandate with excellence”.
The AGSA clean audit outcome comes on the back of SAHPRA’s attainment of the International Standards Organisation’s ISO 9001 certification, which followed a voluntary thorough review of SAHPRA’s processes against this international quality standard by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS). This international certification confirmed SAHPRA’s position among global peers as a provider of globally acceptable regulatory services that are in compliance with or exceed the ISO 9001 international standard on quality management.
