Johannesburg – The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) participated in the fourth edition of 2023 The Pharmacy Show (TPS) during 15-16 March 2023, at the Sandton Convention Centre.
The Pharmacy Show is the leading networking and business event for everyone involved in supplying, marketing, and supporting the South African and Southern African Development Community (SADC) healthcare sector. The event was attended by over 4,500 professionals and hosted over 200 exhibitors from pharmaceutical, life sciences and healthcare industry.
SAHPRA had an opportunity to exhibit at the event and promoted the Med Safety App and the reporting of adverse events. SAHPRA’s Pharmacovigilance Unit engaged with delegates who visited the exhibition stall. These delegates provided compliments and challenges regarding their engagement with SAHPRA. Compliments received from delegates include SAHPRA’s improved public visibility and turnaround time on responses to queries submitted to the organisation. Delegates also provided constructive criticism, which SAHPRA will take into consideration in order to improve its internal processes.
Pharmacovigilance Manager, Ms Mafora Florah Matlala, delivered a presentation on the importance of reporting adverse effects and the promotion of the Med Safety App. Ms Matlala encouraged delegates to download the app on their smartphones and to report adverse events. Furthermore, she explained the importance of information received from such reports, and how it contributes to the improvement of medicine safety and therapy in South Africa and worldwide.
