SAHPRA visits Nelson Mandela University

Gqerberha, 21 October 2022 – The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), as part of its awareness campaign targeting tertiary institutions, visited the Eastern Cape’s Nelson Mandela University (NMU) on Friday, the 21st of October. Human Resources (HR) and the Office of the Chief Regulatory Officer (CRO) presented valuable and beneficial information to 4th year students from the Department of Pharmacy.

This HR drive allows students to better understand SAHPRA’s mandate and its roles and responsibilities, including educating students about the Authority’s programmes.

About 85 students attended the SAHPRA presentation at a lecture room on their South Campus. Dr Mbali Luvuno-Keele, the Pharmacy Head of Department, welcomed the students and introduced the SAHPRA team. Ms Matshepo Mokotong, HR Business Partner, and Office Manager in the Office of the CRO Ms Buhle Binta addressed the students, and this was followed by a very robust and engaging Question and Answer (Q&A) session.

SAHPRA was also invited to witness the inaugural oath swearing for first year pharmacy students. This is a first for this faculty as a way to encourage and motivate the first years towards a greater commitment, adhering to guidance, and hard work so they develop and nurture the best version of themselves and their role in the health sciences.
