28 Jun SAHPRA’s MOU with SANAS extended
28 June 2022
Pretoria – The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) initially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) in 2017 and this will now be extended in 2022.
This MOU will now also incorporate the following activities or services in the Accreditation of Testing (Dosimetry) Laboratories against ISO/IEC 17025; Accreditation of Calibration Laboratories against ISO/IEC 17025; and Inspections and Testing of Diagnostic X-ray Imaging Systems against ISO/IEC 17020.
The initial MOU involved SANAS assisting SAHPRA with the accreditation of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs).
SAHPRA CEO Dr Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela and SANAS Acting CEO Mr Tumelo Baleni have signed an extension of the MOU.
“The forging of partnerships such as this MOU with SANAS paves the way for streamlined systems and processes in the interests of healthcare in South Africa,” indicates Dr Semete-Makokotlela.
“The Board has always believed in SAHPRA as a very critical stakeholder and for that they were quite anxious for the memorandum being signed off. We are looking forward to SAHPRA participating in our advisory committee endeavours which we have prioritised as a strategy to have SAHPRA on board”, adds Mr Baleni.
The MOU extension will also include the accreditation of blood transfusion facilities (blood banks, donor clinics and laboratories).
